BOOK REVIEW:
"Caleb's Birthday
Wish is a charming peek into the mind of every child. As a fellow writer
I can appreciate David Villanueva's simple and honest style of spinning
a delightful tale. As a parent who had a differently-abled child, I am
touched by how well David shows that all children have big dreams which
deserve to be listened to. The little boy in this story, Caleb, shows he
has the power to explore the world through his limitless imagination."

SYNOPSIS: Caleb,
a young boy in a wheelchair, is celebrating his eighth birthday with his friends
and family. As he gets ready to blow the candles out on his chocolate birthday
cake, his mother tells him to make a wish. The boy wheels himself to his club
house to eat his slice of birthday cake, where his eyes notice several blue
balloons tied to the tree branches. Caleb unties two of them, holding the
strings of the balloons tightly in his hands. He closes his eyes and tells
himself “I wish I could fly.” Disappointed that nothing happens, he opens
his eyes and finds himself floating away! His adventures take him through
the city, across the city zoo where he encounters baby alligators, swinging
monkeys, and two tall giraffes. When one of the giraffe’s sneezes, the sneeze
sends the boy soaring
through the blue sky into some puffy white clouds. Not sure how to get
back home, the boy becomes nervous. How does Caleb finally get
home? Well, you’ll have to read the exciting ending to find out!
